Project Description
The transformation of a 19-story, 439,000-square-foot former hotel into a vibrant off-campus student residence redefines modern student living. Completed in two phases, the renovation included a full overhaul of the ground floor, the conversion of an existing pool into a basketball court, and the reconfiguration of suites, corridors, and public spaces.
Our lighting design played a crucial role in enhancing Campus1 MTL’s dynamic environment, enriching key communal areas such as the "Inspiration Room" for movie nights and gaming, fitness and yoga studios, a cafeteria, and a games room. The design drew inspiration from the architectural themes of openness, bold geometric forms, and a vibrant color palette. Concealed LED tape lighting highlights recessed seating in the lobby, while staggered suspended linear lights within the felt ceiling system guide students toward the dining area. A striking hexagonal ceiling feature over the à la carte stations and an organic looped fixture in the central communal space emphasize key architectural elements like the exposed steel ‘X’ columns.
A 3000K color temperature was carefully selected to create warmth and comfort, while an automated control system allows for adaptable lighting levels across shared spaces. All fixtures were chosen for their high efficiency, glare reduction, and compliance with ASHRAE standards, with a targeted efficacy of 100lm/w. Integrated LED boards and Chip-On-Board technology ensure long-term sustainability and performance.
Through a strategic blend of aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency, the lighting design elevates Campus1 MTL into an engaging, visually compelling student residence, seamlessly aligning with the architectural vision and the project’s budgetary constraints.
