Mall of Istanbul

General Info

About the Project

Project Description

The Mall of Istanbul is a whimsical oasis; a mixed-use development with retail, residential, office, hotel and amusement park designed to be a new ”life center” for Istanbul. For the alien world theme park MBL used fiber optics and carefully placed LEDs that were concealed within rock and plant material to create a bioluminescent illusion of light flowing from every crevasse and a glow that seemingly emanates from the planet itself rather than the sky. Theatrical style, motion capable LED luminaires wash over and animate the upper rock peaks and two lower levels provide atmospheric lighting by projecting patterns and colour changing effects on the ground. An architectural DMX system controls the entire design with thousands of addresses and has the capacity to trigger scenes and change elements based on the time of day, occasion or special themed events.
