Lester B. Pearson International Airport, New Terminal 1

General Info

About the Project

Project Description

The T1, 77 gate redevelopment project was implemented over 15 years, eventually replacing existing Terminals 1 and 2. The project began in 1999 and at the time was described as Canada’s largest construction project. A significant feature of this project is the high degree of flexibility designed into the systems. The “spine” of the electrical distribution system is set up as a series of nodes in a continuous service band. Cabling design was part of the facility’s structured cabling system. A complete security system consisting of CCTV surveillance, access control and monitoring was implemented, with more than 700 cameras, and digital recording systems, all monitored and controlled off site. MBII’s scope of involvement included complete design, specification contract administration and commissioning of the entire system. TORONTO PEARSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

We have successfully completed various projects at Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport (LPIA) in collaboration with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). Our work spans across multiple terminals, including the renovation of dining areas, gate re-numbering, tenant space development, and security upgrades. Specific projects in Terminal 1 include enhancements to the Information Centre and Lost & Found, baggage claim hall layout design, IT systems installation, and feasibility studies. In Terminal 2, we managed parking garage demolition and apron construction. Terminal 3 saw improvements in the baggage claim area. Our diverse range of projects highlights our capability to handle complex and varied tasks within a major international airport.
