Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport – Terminal 2

General Info

About the Project

Project Description

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport’s second terminal is one of the most complex transportation projects undertaken. The primary task was to expand Mumbai’s overcrowded airport, but the larger challenge was multifaceted. The project required tripling the airport’s capacity on a site surrounded by informal settlements, an overflowing river, and immovable historical monuments, all while keeping the existing terminal operational during construction. The result is a terminal that rivals the most advanced airports in the world and stands as a symbol of its country.

Serving 40 million passengers annually, the 44-gate International Terminal combines both international and domestic operations. Our scope of work included the design of the fire alarm, public address systems, and ICT infrastructure consisting of fault-tolerant wired and wireless network infrastructure. This infrastructure was designed to support various IP-based technologies over a high-availability, high-bandwidth network backbone. Additionally, an integrated security system featuring fully integrated CCTV and access control systems was provided.

The project has earned numerous accolades, including the Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award (2012), and has achieved LEED BD+C NC (New Construction) Gold certification for its sustainability efforts.
