Stephen is Vice President of Mulvey & Banani Lighting and a Principal at the parent firm, Mulvey & Banani. With a background rooted in both the arts and architecture, Stephen’s path into lighting design emerged as a natural fusion of creativity and spatial understanding. His work focuses on crafting emotionally experiences within the built environment, using light as a medium to blend artistic vision with cutting-edge technology.

Stephen is known for his thoughtful and innovative approach to lighting design, which has been applied across a diverse portfolio of projects that include IES award winning University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, as well as the L.F. Wade International Airport Redevelopment, Bermuda, Toronto’s Waterfront Innovation Centre, Deloitte Tower, Montreal, and the third and final tower in Toronto’s Bay Adelaide Centre complex (Bay Adelaide North). From architectural landmarks to immersive installations, he believes that lighting is not merely functional but is central to storytelling, mood-setting, and the human experience of space.

A passionate advocate for the lighting design profession, Stephen is actively engaged in education and industry outreach. He regularly leads seminars, lectures, and mentorship initiatives aimed at inspiring students, emerging designers, and fellow professionals. Through these efforts, he continues to contribute to the evolution and recognition of lighting design as a vital and dynamic discipline.
