BIO

Alan McIntosh, Vice President of Mulvey & Banani Lighting, brings a unique blend of artistic sensibility and technical expertise to the world of lighting design. To Alan, good design is the art of merging the exact with the abstract, transforming scientific principles into beautiful, functional designs. He believes lighting is more than just illumination; it's an emotional and artistic expression that connects people with spaces and objects, often without them even realizing it.

Initially aspiring to go into law enforcement, Alan's path to lighting design was unconventional. His passion was ignited in high school theatre, further fueled by community theatre productions. His journey took many turns, from studying Communications/Theatre to working at a local television station, and then entering the world of professional lighting design. His career decisions, including a pivotal choice to join Mulvey & Banani Lighting, have led him down a rich and varied path.

Key projects in Alan's illustrious career include the Ripley's Aquarium, particularly the Sea Nettles Tank, the illumination of Niagara Falls, the Prince Edward Viaduct, and the Bloor Street Benches. His work primarily spans attractions and large-scale installations, showcasing his talent for managing logistically complex projects.

Alan's leadership style is characterized by fairness, understanding, and a focus on enabling his team to discover solutions independently. He values listening and surrounding himself with skilled individuals, ensuring collective success through collaboration and meeting common goals.

Outside the office, Alan is a dedicated family man, passionate about sports, especially baseball and hockey, and enjoys spending quality time with his children. His journey from the drama of the theatre to the precision of engineering highlights his diverse talents and dedication, making him a key figure in the growth and evolution of Mulvey & Banani Lighting.
