Lester B. Pearson International Airport, New Terminal 1

General Info

About the Project

Project Description

The T1, 77 gate redevelopment project was implemented over 15 years, eventually replacing existing Terminals 1 and 2. The project began in 1999 and at the time was described as Canada’s largest construction project. A significant feature of this project is the high degree of flexibility designed into the systems. The “spine” of the electrical distribution system is set up as a series of nodes in a continuous service band. Cabling design was part of the facility’s structured cabling system. A complete security system consisting of CCTV surveillance, access control and monitoring was implemented, with more than 700 cameras, and digital recording systems, all monitored and controlled off site. MBII’s scope of involvement included complete design, specification contract administration and commissioning of the entire system.
